NY Ironweed
Vernonia noveboracensis
NY Ironweed is an excellent choice for rain gardens, meadow gardens as well as tight spaces, providing structure with its tall upright stems. Flower heads burst in a profusion of pinkish-purple hues, attracting butterflies. Later seed clusters attract birds. Try pruning plants at varying heights in spring to produce a wall of blooms.
